Rotavirus – What is it?

According to MSD’s leaflet Rotavirus is a common stomach virus that’s very easy to get and the symptoms includes diarrhea, vomiting and fever. These symptoms can lead to serious dehydration.

Yesterday, we went to our Municipal Health Center to have my daughter’s second dose of Rotavirus Oral Vaccine. Her first dose was given by her Pediatrician for about 3000php, it was too late when I learned that our local health center already has this vaccine for free. This oral vaccination targets 5 of the most common types of Rotavirus. I am a mother who believes that prevention is better than cure that is why I always visit my kids Pediatrician and have the kids vaccinated for all the available vaccines and immunization they can provide for my kids.

An estimated 10 Filipino children die each day from rotavirus gastroenteritis according to Parashar U, Hummelman E, Bresee J et al Global illness and deaths caused by rotavirus disease in children. I have suffered from diarrhea and it was very hard, I don’t want my kids to suffer from the same illness. I hate to see kids that has a needle in their hands connected to a dextrose because they needed to be hydrated because of their illness.

If you don’t have the money or budget for an oral vaccine to protect your newborn, visit your local municipal health center, they have vaccines that are given for free. Do not delay.

and great deals to their customers. Yeah, I admit that I prefer and I’ve switched online since when I learned how to drop by and shop though the internet. Before I go to sleep I took shower first to be more comfortable and feeling fresh while I’m sleeping on my bed. Boosting Baby’s Immune System

We went to Chicay’s Pediatrician last Wednesday for her 2nd dose of IPD vaccine. And while waiting for our turn, I took some leaflets from her Pediatrician’s assistant’s table. There is this one leaflet from Abbott that shares some things that parents can do to boost their baby’s immune system and I would love to share with you. Some may already know about these things but others may have not known about it. So let me share these tips with you:

  • Breastfeed for as long as possible. Then transition to a diet recommended by your physician.
  • Be sure your child’s vaccinations are up to date. Check with your doctor about what your child needs.
  • Provide a healthy diet. Lack of certain vitamins and minerals may weaken immune response. Diets with nucleotides (lean meat and mushrooms), prebiotics (nuts, beans and whole grains), and probiotics (yogurt), may help strengthen the immune system.
  • Avoid exposure to cigarette smoke and toxic substances (such as household cleaners, fertilizers and pesticides). This can result in a weakened immune system.
  • Be sure your child gets enough sleep. Rest helps the immune system stay at its peak.
  • Don’t forget physical activity. You know that exercise is good for physical and mental development. Now you know it’s good for immunity too.
  • Reduce unnecessary stress. The immune system is sensitive to stress and affects the body’s ability to respond to infection. Try to keep your child’s environment calm.

These are what was written in Abbott’s leaflet. These I believe are the basic things to do in order to boost our children’ immune system but we can still add some to this long list such as provide them with vitamins.

ViBox

I learned about this amazing product when I scanned the Facebook Page of The Fawn Shoppe. ViBox is a portable vibrating speaker, and it is the latest speaker system which makes surprising sound effect. Surprising because it turns everyday object into speakers. You just stick it onto different objects that is commonly seen inside your house such as old box of your cereal, tin, calendar, plastic wares and everything else.

ViBox is small, lightweight and can play using AAA batteries or through USB and connected to our laptop. The ViBox that I have bought looks like an Apple, you can see the photo below. There are other shapes and sizes and colors, but I prefer the white and apple shape one to match my iPhone 4S.

Online Contest: The Ups and Downs

It is not a secret that I love joining online contests. My friends and relatives kept thinking why LBC kept on coming back to our house to deliver my freebies and prizes. Some of the prizes that I don’t use I gave to my cousins and to my nieces, like eye shadows, mascara and other make up paraphernalia’s. So now, one of my nieces decided to join an online contest. But to her dismay, after receiving a lot of LIKES (she needed so many FB likes in order to WIN) the Facebook Page running the contest decided to take down or delete her photo entry. She was sad, disgusted and devastated. Her efforts were wasted. She meticulously send PMs (personal message) to every single friend she has online; she even posted her photo entry to our Facebook group in order to gain LIKES (points).

And I got angry too. But before I reacted negatively, I asked her if the FB page admin contacted her, or sent her an email in case she violated any rules about the contest. My niece told me that the FB page admin didn’t contact her; we only saw the comment on her uploaded photo that it was deleted from the contest album with no given reason. She sent a personal message to the Facebook Page and they replied that they don’t know who removed her photo from the contest album.

I couldn’t believe how immature and not professional these kind of people who handled this FB page. Are they saying that we are that dumb? A person who is not an admin of a certain page cannot just delete a photo in that page’s album, and comment using the FB page’s profile. I am really disappointed but no I will not reveal a link to their FB page here because they might just gain a lot of likes and visits when in fact they don’t deserve to be liked.

Just a reminder for those who want to join online contests, be ready for anything and everything and because after all your efforts spent you might be disappointed in the end for no reason at all.

What’s Inside My Bag

I am joining this week’s BC Bloggers MEME, and if you want you can join here too.

For this week, we are going to share the things that we have inside our bag. So I will let you take a peek inside my bag.

This is how my bag looks inside:

These are the things that can be found inside my bag:

What you see is what you get. I have my precious wallet, the one with lots of cards and photos. I also have a pen and my two check books. I have 2012 planner which I receive from a PMC mom during last year’s Grand EB. The yellow bag is where I put my money and checks for deposits to the bank. And I have my trusted comb wherever I go too. That little black bag there holds my iPhone, it’s charger and it’s headphone.

I don’t have make up kit inside my bag because I don’t use make up. I also don’t have my shades there because I usually put it in the car.

Sophie La Girafe

I learned about Sophie the Giraffe when I was checking out gift ideas for baby showers. My cousin is having a baby shower party (in FLORIDA, so I will not be able to join but I did send her gifts for her Kassie). Sophie the Giraffe is among the TOP TEN gift ideas for baby shower, and having a baby of my own, I decided to buy one. So I looked for online shop who are based in the Philippines in order to buy Sophie the Giraffe for my Chicay.

When I saw the online shop, I didn’t hesitate, the price for Sophie the Giraffe in the US and here is almost the same so it’s alright for me. The Fawnshoppe is the online shop that I am talking about. They sell Sophie the Giraffe for only 1080php and I got mine for 999php because of their online promo. Of course, this blog post will not be complete without Sophie’s photo so let us all welcome Sophie La Girafe:
Let me also share with you what I have read from The Fawnshoppe’s description about Sophie and how it can help your child develop her or his 5 senses:
Product Description:
Sophie the Giraffe is BABY’S FIRST TOY, stimulating EACH OF HIS SENSES from the age of months:

Sight:
At the age of 3 months, a baby’s eyesight is still limited and he can only make out high contrasts. The dark and contrasting attention-catching spots all over Sophie the Giraffe’s body provide visual stimulation and she soon becomes a familiar and reassuring object for baby.

Hearing:
Sophie the Giraffe’s squeaker keeps baby amused and stimulates his hearing. To begin with, the funny sound Sophie makes when she is squeezed helps to stimulate baby’s hearing, and then later, helps him to understand the link between cause and effect..

Taste:
Sophie the Giraffe is made of 100% natural rubber and food paint, and is completely safe to chew, just like a feeding bottle teat. Her soft texture and numerous chewable parts (ears, horns, legs), make her perfect for soothing baby’s sore gums during teething.

Touch:
Touch is the first means a baby has of communicating with the outside world. Sophie the Giraffe’s soft feel, like baby’s mother’s skin, stimulates physiological and emotional responses that soothe baby and promote healthy growth and well-being.

Smell:
The singular scent of natural rubber from the Hevea tree makes Sophie the Giraffe very special and easy for your child to identify amid all his other toys.

Easy to grip:
Sophie the Giraffe’s shape and 18cm size are perfect for baby’s small hands. She is very light, and her long legs and neck are easy for baby to grip, even from his earliest days.

• 7 inches tall
• Made of 100% Natural Rubber (phthalates Free) and food paint

Motivating Kids to Study More

My first born is in Kinder 2 already and he is 5 years old. He started studying when he was 3 years old, I enrolled him under my pre-school teacher’s very own school. Yes, we have the same pre-school teacher.

When my son started school, he doesn’t know how to write nor read and he barely talks. He can’t even pronounce some words correctly. But now, after two years, he learned a lot. When we had our first General Parents-Teachers Association’s meeting, his teacher even made him as an example. According to Teacher Indang, when my son was in nursery and Kinder 1, he doesn’t participate in school activities, he wont raise his hands when the teachers asked the pupils about a certain question that needs to be answered. He just sit there in his chair, eating. Yes, he eats for the 2 whole hours while he is in school. Then now, a big change happened. He participates actively in school works, he knows how to spell words, write his full name, sing a lot of children’s songs, and he memorizes Bible verses. Teacher Indang told us (the parents), that we should not force our kids to study or scold them if they don’t learn their lessons so well. Some kids are late bloomers, like my son, that he only find the time to love studying now compared last year.

I agree with Teacher Indang, I don’t scold my son nor force him to study, I let him play with his toys and friends if he likes when he is at home. If I ask him about their lessons and he can’t answer, I just told him that tomorrow he needs to listen to his teacher so that he’ll understand and will not forget about it. He’s just a kid, and kids needs to play, rest and enjoy life. The only motivation that I do so that he’ll study, is I praise him, I praise him if he knows somethings new from school. A new song, a new Bible verse, a new word that he can spell.

Our kids wants our attention, and yes, praising them makes them feel that we care for them. That we are interested with their home works and their milestones.

Baby in Yellow

I am a PINK fanatic that is why most of the things that I own are pink. I just gave birth to my daughter last March and yes, all her things/clothes are pink too. But my cousins gave me their daughter’s pre-loved clothes that is why once in a while, my Chicay wears dresses that are not in the shade of pink.

I realize that my baby looks good even in the color yellow. She’s all smiles when I took her photo:
