Backyard Fun and Games

There are several motivating reasons to make your backyard a fun place for kids and adults to hang out during the spring, summer and early autumn seasons. Taking the party outside gives you a more expansive place to entertain. Enjoying the fresh air and sunshine or the beauty of a sunset is another reason to plan outdoor activities. Everyone can feel more relaxed outside. Concerns over spills and stains are eliminated when you entertain outdoors. You can create a fun backyard by purchasing or making some outdoor games for kids and adults and providing a refreshment area for everyone.

Games for Kids and Adults

When you have a variety of backyard games that kids and adults can play together, you have a perfect setup for a fun family night. You’ll also have the foundation for a fun-filled birthday party or backyard cookout. Ring toss or bean bag toss setups and scavenger hunts are fun games for kids and adults. Cornhole sets are a fun backyard game that everyone can enjoy. You can even customize the cornhole board if you like.

Games for Children

Bowling, relay races, tug-of-war, hopscotch and obstacle courses are fun games that help kids expend energy. For quieter activities, there are games such as marble racing and outdoor tic-tac-toe for kids to enjoy.

Games for Adults

An over-sized version of Jenga or checkers can be played by adults at your outdoor party. Volleyball, horseshoes and croquet are also fun games for adults to participate in.

Nighttime Activities

Backyard games don’t have to end at sundown. There are lots of games such as ring toss and hopscotch that can be played using glow sticks. A glow-in-the-dark ball can be used to play a game of kickball. Cornhole boards can be illuminated as can bowling pins, balls and lane.

Giant or over-size games are best for playing outdoors. A tub of ice, a variety of drinks and packaged snacks are sufficient for your refreshment station. Backyard family time or parties should be fun and relaxing for everyone, including the host.

Spend Time for Yourself and God

If you’re involved in a local congregation, chances are you have a desire to connect with others. In order to grow as a believer, it’s important to maintain a presence in a community. It’s also important to figure out ways to serve others. As a woman, it’s a great idea to start by connecting the women of your church to one another. In many churches, women tend to feel misunderstood, excluded and alone. You can change this epidemic by intentionally ministering in the following ways.

1. Kind Acts
Sometimes, a kind act will do so much to help another woman as she’s going through life’s challenges. If you know that a woman is dealing with some stress in her marriage, offer some words of encouragement in a beautifully hand-written note. You don’t have to bring up the fact that you know about the marital issues because that can get sticky. However, if you’re offering encouraging words, that lets her know that you’re rooting for her. A kind act doesn’t have to be extravagant. Sometimes, it’s the thought behind the act that counts the most.

2. Bible Studies
Since you all are church-going members, you can take time out to lead an effective Bible study. Women are struggling with so many private issues that they’re uncomfortable sharing. A bible study is a perfect context to spiritually minister to a woman and build her up. It’s a chance to let her know that you are praying for her and will always lead her back to the Word of God. Do your research to find women’s bible study lessons that cover a myriad of real-life issues that are relatable to the ladies in your congregation.

3. Event Hosting
Reserve one night a month to host an event that brings the women together. You might decide to host the event at a local restaurant. Many restaurants have large rooms that they offer free of charge. It’s just important for everyone to order food. This event can easily serve as a ladies’ night out and an opportunity for everyone to relax. Many women are bogged down with so many responsibilities. It’s nice to come to a space with like-minded women and relax.
